Geek note: camera by mattkrause1969

Another in a series of blog posts about the equipment I use on the road:

My camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7. I bought it last year, refabbed, on Amazon. It is not fancy, but it is light. I suppose I could carry a fancier camera, but it would be heavier and I’m not interested in carrying a heavier pack across the country.

On the road I only whip out my laptop about once a week, so I get the photos off the camera and onto the blog using a combination of an Eye-fi card and my iPhone with the Flickr app.

The Eye-fi card is a souped-up SD memory card that forms its own wireless network for a few feet surrounding the camera. The iPhone picks up on that network, the photos move from the camera to the phone via that network, and then I upload the photos from the phone to Flickr using a data connection and the iPhone’s Flickr app.

Yes, Gary and Joe, that is a Mac in the background. I’m sorry, but not really. Different tools for different needs.
