These are the things I’m going to leave behind in Mersin. They won’t get to ride along in my backpack for the final 1/3 of the trip.
In the assortment are some notebooks, the contents of which have been scanned and uploaded onto the internet; a Cormac McCarthy book; some toiletries I’ve never used or had too many of; various gifts people have given me during the trip.
None of the stuff is related to keeping me warm. Cover the distance, stay warm. Those are my two primary directives for the final 1/3 of the trip.
My pack once again does not rise above the top of my head. That’s a main criterion for when it’s time to purge the pack: when passing under an awning, do I need to worry about bumping my head, or bumping the top of my pack? When it’s the pack I need to worry about, it’s time to clear some stuff out.
